12th October 1991

I was going through some old paperwork and stumbled across the attached press article, which appeared in The Times.
Through a bit of detective work I worked out that the article was published on 12 October 1991 and the 3rd XV game Simon Barnes makes reference to was most likely against Old Reedonians (now Reeds Weybridge) who the team had played the previous weekend.
I seem to remember a somewhat wild and unpredictable 3rd XV fullback called Dennis who could start a fight in an empty room being on the staff at The Times and so was able to add the article to Barnes's much-read Saturday piece.
The article sums up well how disorganized we were in those days and brings back memories of much panic most Saturday mornings in the Duke of Cornwall or underneath the flyover at Hammersmith, trying to locate the kit that someone had taken charge of the Saturday before or find the 13th, 14th and 15th players to at least make up a full team.
Happy days.
