In steady rain, which resulted in both sides making a huge number of unforced errors, the dominance that London Cornish maintained in the tight throughout this opening London 2 South-West encounter saw them to a deserved win. A much changed Cornish, fielding 7 debutants and recalling Ali Lindsay at 9 for his first 1st team start in 6 years, laboured to the win through a goal and 4 penalties to two goals, full back Josh Allison landing 14 points with the boot. The try was scored early in the 2nd half by centre Miles Rushworth, after initial incisions by fellow debutants George Kimmins and David Funston. Twickenham came back strongly in the closing stages, but were denied by strong Cornish d, their final thrust ended by a turnover by Alex Soskin in the shadow of the posts. A noteable debut was made by Heineken Cup and Prem winning former Wasps, Perpignan and Queensland Red Samoan International Dan Leo, who made it through his first 80 minutes for some seasons. Dan is coaching at the club and will be available to play from time to time as required.

Cornish went into the game without a vast array of talent mainly due to a charity cycling event, and all of those players are back in action from this week on, 15 in the 1s squad alone. It will be interesting to see if and where the coaching team find room for the likes of Rory Ling, Jake Slade, Harry Somers, Tom Patton, Steve Wood, Tom Ievers, Matt Hakes, Rich Stephens, Phil Dale, Tom Hupfield, Tom Jeffery, Dave Smith, Chris Smart and Jackson Szabo. It may well take a few weeks for a regular selection to settle in!
